Cyber Security a Global Struggle: UN Survey

According to a recent UN report, only about half of all countries have a cyber security strategy or are in the process of developing one. The Global Cyber security Index examines defense capabilities in 134 countries, within five factors: technical, organizational, legal, cooperation, and growth potential.

United States was ranked second after Singapore which took the top rating for "most committed". Additionally, the US beat Singapore on legal, organizational and growth potential factors whereas Singapore scored higher for cooperation.

As per the survey results, it was identified that developing countries lack well-trained cyber security experts. Also they are devoid of necessary education on cyber security issues for law enforcement, and face challenges in the judiciary and legislative branches. Half of the countries that responded to the survey lack cyber security strategy and other half do not have training facilities. Also, among the five permanent members of the United Nations' Security Council, a gap was observed wherein, the US was ranked second, France at eighth, Russia ranked number 10, the UK at 12, and China at number 32.
